Nkole: Nkole,

Banyankole, Nyankore, Bantuvolk in Südwestuganda, östlich des Rutanzigesees. Die etwa 1,5 Mio. Nkole setzen sich aus einer kleineren, äthiopiden, Vieh züchtenden Oberschicht (Hima) und der Masse der Ackerbau (Bananen, Hirse) treibenden Unterschicht (Iru) zusammen. Das Volk entstand mit der Unterwerfung der Iru durch einwandernde Hima, die das sakrale Königtum und die Bantusprache übernahmen. Ihr Königreich Ankole bestand bis 1967.
